An Ode to the Font
Here’s Sam, a Homestead Product Designer, with a few words describing a new enhancement to a couple of our elements in SiteBuilder. - Rochelle
SiteBuilder fonts number just twenty nine
For some customers, that is quite fine
From Arial to Wingdings we have a good set
But what about Mangal, Batang, or Sevnet?
“Where are my fonts?”
People often will write
“I use them in Word…
I’d like them on my site!”
Well now they’re all there
Every font Word can show
Is in two of our elements:
Anti-aliased text and logo
We’ve made it so you can use any font
Custom logos and headers will look like you want
They render as images as you will see
So your site will appear as you meant it to be
Since visitors don’t have the fonts that you might
SiteBuilder makes images so your pages look right
But search engines cannot read them at all
And big images slow your page to a crawl
For large content sections, we would suggest
The text element will serve you the best
It uses the fonts, that all browsers display
“Your website is great!” people will say

Now you can use any font on your computer in the the anti-aliased text and logo elements in SiteBuilder!

I’m not seeing those new font styles when I use this feature? Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you - this is great!! (Now if we could just have those drop-down menus…..!)

This new mod saves me the time of typing the text into Word, using print-screen to capture the text, then using my graphics editor to create a transparent GIF to upload.
Since these new graphical representations of text will not be recognized by search engines, why not create a text box of the same words and hide it behind some larger graphic. (Format - Element Layer Order - Send to Back)
Or just type the same graphical representations of text in the Meta Tags Description and/or Keywords area.
Lovin my Homestead!

An Ode to the Font is now all showing up on my email. The right side of the script is cut off. Could you send it to me again so I can see all of the instructions?
Thank you,
Sally

I am also not seeing these fonts. Should they not be showing in the dropdown under fonts on the text box?
December 12, 2007 at 3:21 pm
I found it! For those who have yet to find it, it is located in the dropdown box with the letter “A” on the tool bar (the one that begins with the letter T).

Thanks to markadamsvidioview for posting clearer instructions on finding the Anti Aliased Element (by the way, this works in the Logo Element as well)!

This is great, thank you

It’s great to have access to additional fonts, but now my websites don’t display existing logo and linked anti-aliased elements correctly.

I’m sorry, but I have not been able to locate them. jon

Hi Everyone,
You can access all your fonts through two elements in SiteBuilder:
Logo Element:

Anti-aliased Text Element:

I am liking this new feature. Nice to be able to make banners and buttons etc with funkier fonts. I would LOVE to see this feature added to the navigation bars.

It’s nice to see more fonts being added only I wish they could be available in the TEXT menu. It’s still difficult trying to make the background blend in with the special fonts especially when the color is a print and NOT a solid.
By the way, is there any kind of way to make translucent images and shapes? It would be so cool if this feature was available too. I would also love to see round borders and circle borders and possiblly other shapes. If we had more than the square borders, there would be so many more things that I could do to make my web design style go WOW!!!

Hi Tiff,
With regular text, if visitors to your website do not have the same fonts that you use in your text, they will not see your fonts on your website. To get around that, the Anti-aliased Text and Logo Elements make images out of the text you type in those elements.
The Text Element leaves everything in it as text, and does not convert it into images. That allows the page to load quicker. To ensure your site looks as you intended, we left just the basic fonts in the Text Element.

Hi Sam. Could you let us know if there is any remote chance the new text feature will be added to the Navigation feature ? It would be wonderful to ensure a consistent look to a site.

Are we able to have a ’scrollable’ text box. There is a lot more writing we would like to add to certain pages without adding another page. I would like the user to just scroll down that section.
Thanks.

1. How do other h/std users achieve shadowed/mirrored, slightly angled text.
Can someone enlighten me?
2. With various shapes I would like to see the option of ‘Border Outline’ and select desired colour with background - optional to have fill of any colour OR set to NONE. As is the case with TEXT box.
What is the likelihood of having access to this & when?
3. How does one avoid images, text, shapes etc. on a web page that is MULT-layered from OPENING in increments instead of as ONE unit so to speak?
Is there any CODE that I can insert as an HTML to avoid above?
Tried groups elements - no result. Feels it makes my website somewhat unprofessional.

I have been using Homestead for almost 10 years, and you are by far the most advanced of the easiest to use site builders. I am thrilled you have added this font feature! Kudos, guys! You’re the BEST!
